Personalizing Your Digital Footprint
As of October 26th, 2026 it's officially been a year since I've started coding on Neocities. This is now the main social media platform I'm active on, and as I've mentioned a bunch of times I use it to express myself and talk about my interests. Overall, being on a social media platform where I can browse through a vast amount of other people's interests made me realize that I should be intentional of what social media platforms I'm on, and what I post.
The Problem With Social Media Today
For me, the biggest problem with social media today is the normalization of short content. Popular platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat rely on short content to be entertaining. This leads to doomscrolling for hours and short attention spans instead of utilizing that time for something meaningful. Also, I find a lot of people use social media for gossiping and judging others which can get annoying to find on my for you pages. I think that posting content like this ruins your digital footprint as well because whatever's posted on social media is retained.Social Media Platforms I Use and Why
Click each social media title to view my profile!- Neocities: By browsing my site, you should have some idea of why I love using this platform without me saying so lol.
- Pinterest: The perfect place to find inspiration! I use it to customize all of my devices and social profiles, find hairstyles to try, outfits to recreate, and to save boards of things I love. It's easy to curate the platform to my interests and that's what I love so much about it.
- Spotify: I love listening to music, and Spotify helps me do so! It's easy to use and with Pinterest now my profile has a green, beige, and brown color scheme which I find very pleasing. My public playlists also help my friends and those who view my website to learn more about my music taste!
- Youtube: Although I don't post videos or shorts, I love YouTube specifically for the long-term content. I typically enjoy watching it when I'm bored of binge-watching shows from streaming services. Just like Spotify, it's so easy to make playlists on what I like too!
Conclusion
Keep in mind that it's okay to use social media platforms with short content, but try to be mindful of why you like using a specific platform. The more intention you have with social media, the more enjoyable it'll be!For You: Click here to view a YouTube video regarding this topic!
